In February 2021, Plataforma CIPÓ, alongside 16 civil society organisations, sent a letter to Brazil’s National Committee for Refugees (CONARE). The letter requested the committee to reconsider its decision to reject 17 asylum requests without having first conducted eligibility interviews. The rejection of the asylum claims, without initially granting an opportunity for the applicants to have their case heard, violates constitutional principles, international norms and the 1997 Brazilian National Refuge Law. In the letter, we requested that CONARE reconsider its decision.
