The war in Ukraine: What can the United Nations do? CIPÓ in Folha de São Paulo

On February 28, 2022, CIPÓ’s Executive Director, Adriana Abdenur, analysed the role of the United Nations (UN) in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in an interview for the Brazilian newspaper Folha de S. Paulo about.

In Adriana’s view: “Although Russia’s actions weaken the overall UN peace mechanisms, there are a number of other measures that the UN can take—and is already taking—in relation to Ukraine.” In addition to facilitating a global condemnation of the Russian invasion, the United Nations must play a leading role in helping victims of war by putting in place, for example, mechanisms to provide adequate assistance to refugees, concludes Adriana.
