In an op-ed for the news channel EPBR, CIPÓ senior researcher Renata Albuquerque Ribeiro commented on the importance of international cooperation for the energy transition. South Africa, for example, signed the South Africa Just Energy Transition Plan at COP26, in which the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany and the European Union cooperated.
However, the researcher warns that it is important to pay attention to the conditions imposed in these cooperation arrangements, as there is a risk of increased levels of external debt for the countries receiving aid.
According to Dr. Ribeiro, Brazil has numerous advantages for negotiating international cooperation arrangements to help the energy transition, mainly the strong international and domestic articulation of civil society organizations present in the country.
With renewed hope, civil society takes a stand and affirms that Brazil is back to the international climate change regime.
