CIPÓ attends the 8th Annual Meeting of the BRICS Bank

The Plataforma CIPÓ directly followed, last Tuesday (30), from Shanghai, China, the 8th Annual Meeting of the New Development Bank (NDB), the BRICS Bank. According to researcher João Cumarú, who resides in the Asian country, the event discussed issues such as fund expansion, inclusion of new members, and the need to direct strategic investments to the Global South, with a focus on sustainable transition.

The meeting was the first under the leadership of former President Dilma Rousseff, who now heads the international organization. In her opening speech, she emphasized the relevance of the NDB as a multilateral financial institution focused on sustainable development. She praised the role of the bank in financing infrastructure projects, renewable energy, and social inclusion initiatives in emerging countries.

Finance Minister Fernando Haddad participated remotely. Cumarú also noted a greater presence of representatives from Global South countries that are joining the NDB, such as Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, and Egypt, which reinforces this expansion movement of the NDB.
