CIPÓ calls for support from the Brazilian government to Haitian citizens

In August 2021, CIPÓ sent a letter, together with 27 civil society associations, addressed to Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice and Public Security in support of citizens of the Republic of Haiti.

The letter demands the Federal Government to guarantee urgent protection and logistical support for the family reunification of Haitians with relatives and dependents in Brazil. It also calls on the Brazilian government to ensure the immediate entry into the national territory of Haitian citizens who wish to rebuild their lives in the country.

The entities also reinforce that these measures must be accompanied by a migration status regularization process, which should be available to all Haitian citizens who are in the national territory, including those who irregularly entered Brazil during the period of border closure related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
