On April 29, 22, CIPÓ took part in the Foreign Policy Climate Summit. The international gathering of top government officials, industry leaders and issue experts was convened by Foreign Policy to highlight strategies and innovations for viable, cross-sector solutions to meet urgent climate targets. What lessons have we learned from the pandemic? Can we galvanize the level of global action used to tackle COVID-19 in the fight against climate change?
CIPÓ Executive Director Adriana Erthal Abdenur spoke who spoke on the panel “Fostering a Just Transition – Ensuring Marginalized Communities Have a Seat at the Table“, moderated by Dr. Mayesha Alam (Vice President of Research at Foreign Policy Analytics). Dr. Abdenur focused on the need for Global South approaches to the Just Transitions, drawing on CIPÓ’s ongoing work on cleaning up commodity chains driving illegal deforestation and other environmental crimes in the Brazilian Amazon, and preventing their harmful impacts on indigenous, Afro-descending and other traditional communities in the region, as well as workers more broadly.
