Diplomatic paths for a resumption of Brazil’s foreign policy towards Africa

How to rearticulate diplomatic relations in the Brazilian foreign policy toward Africa? On May 25, 2022, Africa Day, Dr. Renata Albuquerque Ribeiro, senior researcher at Plataforma CIPÓ, published an article on the Carta Capital portal, a Brazilian digital journal. The publication indicates a series of activities for the resumption of Brazil’s relations with African countries, in diplomacy and South-South Cooperation, and brings the idea that rearticulating the connection with African countries is a path to recognize the contribution of African matrices in Brazilian culture, without repeating the mistakes of the past and without reproducing racist or exploitative political relations.

The article emphasizes the tradition of dialogue, partnership, and proximity between Brazil and the continent. Moreover, it points out possibilities for innovation in these relations, in a future government. Renata argues that, with a possible recovery of engagement with the continent, Brazil could align the political and commercial objectives with the Brazilian private sector.
