Plataforma CIPÓ and LabJaca, a data and narrative laboratory on favelas and peripheries based in Rio de Janeiro, have partnered in the project “Amplifying Voices: combating environmental and climate racism in urban spaces”, supported by Heinrich Böll Foundation.
In the scope of this project, CIPÓ and LabJaca have developed audiovisual content on this urgent topic. On December 14, 2021, the third video of the initiative “amplifying voices” has been released:
Meet Gabriel and Ezequiel, community leaders engaged in projects that promote environmental and climate justice in the local level.
The video sheds light to the importance of favela residents-led projects, including the Federation of Favelas Associations of Rio de Janeiro State (FAFERJ) and the urban agriculture project Hortas Cariocas, which is carried out in Manguinhos (Rio de Janeiro). These initiatives advocate for the right to adequate housing, sustainable development, food security and dignified employment.
