Between September 20 and 25, Plataforma CIPÓ will participate in a series of dialogues in New York, held within the context of the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Representing the organization, Executive Director Maiara Folly will join meetings focusing on UN reform, the future of multilateralism, women’s leadership, new international coalitions, climate action, and the role of Brazil and the Global South in forging responses to global challenges.
The agenda takes place against a backdrop of geopolitical tensions, simultaneous crises, and growing challenges to international cooperation. Prominent themes include the representativeness and legitimacy of multilateral institutions, the participation of Global South countries in decision-making processes, and pathways to transform international commitments into tangible results.
The discussions are also occurring alongside the selection process for the next United Nations leadership, bringing to the forefront issues such as the implementation of the Pact for the Future, the G20’s role in global governance, and debates aimed at strengthening the leading role of the Global South and women in climate action.
