Maiara Folly, Plataforma CIPÓ’s Executive Director, is in Bonn, Germany, attending the 60th Sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB60) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which is taking place from June 3 to 13. This event is considered a pre-COP29 as it aims to set the stage for the decisions to be made in November in Baku, Azerbaijan. The main agenda item, and a point of contention between major nations and developing nations, is the future of climate financing.
Folly participated in a series of events and meetings. She attended sessions of the work program on the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance and the negotiations of the Just Transition Work Program, as well as taking part in the consultation with the COP29 Presidency on the vision and objectives of the Baku conference. In this context, Brazil intervened, emphasizing support for the COP29 Presidency and the willingness to work together for a successful conference, paving the way for a successful COP30 in Belém.
Folly also attended a meeting with Brazilian negotiators on climate adaptation, a meeting with Brazilian negotiators of the Just Transition Work Program, and a working lunch with representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change discussing the Climate Plan and the new Brazilian NDC.
Last Saturday (June 8), she was one of the speakers at the event “Leveraging Just Transitions Across Adaptation, Mitigation and Trade Policies,” co-organized by CIPÓ. Other participants included representatives from the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, Climate Strategies, the Stockholm Environment Institute, the European Union, and UNCTAD.
