On March 21, 2022, on the International Day of Forests, CIPÓ’s Programme Director, Maiara Folly, participated in an event at the UK Parliament, in London, to discuss issues related to illegal deforestation, the climate and biodiversity crises and the rights of indigenous peoples.
The event was organised by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Global Deforestation and attended by representatives from the Global Alliance of Territorial Communities, including Dinaman Tuxá, lawyer and National Coordinator of the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB); as well as Lord Zac Goldsmith, UK Minister of State for the Pacific and the International Environment and Chair of COP26.
The Global Alliance delegation shared their own experiences as climate and human rights defenders, and outlined what they think the UK government and other global leaders need to do to protect indigenous rights and forests around the world.
