On the 11th of October, 2021, CIPÓ’s Programme Director, Maiara Folly, participated in the event “Dialogues on resistance in security and crime organized in Latin America and not the Caribbean“, promoted by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime.
Maiara was one of the speakers in the panel “Context of illegal gold mining in the Amazon basin“, which discussed the relations between illegal mining and other form of crimes, including drug and arms trafficking. CIPÓ’s director emphasised the negative impacts that the illegal extraction of gold in the Amazon have upon local communicates, particularly indigenous groups.
