CIPÓ participates in climate change and forestry training in China

Plataforma CIPÓ took part in the Capacity-Building Seminar on Climate Change Response in BRICS Countries, held from July 3 to 9, with activities in Beijing and Hebei Province, China. The event was organized by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China (NAFGA) and brought together 44 representatives from BRICS countries and invited partners, including Egypt, Ethiopia, Thailand, and Sierra Leone.

CIPÓ was represented by Ana Saggioro Garcia, Senior Fellow, and Philipe Alexandre Junqueira, Advocacy and Projects Officer. The seminar aimed to present the Chinese perspective on addressing climate change and conserving forest resources, while also strengthening cooperation among participating countries.

The program included classes, lectures, and field visits, highlighting topics such as: China’s climate mitigation actions; the role of the forestry sector in international negotiations; challenges and opportunities related to the 30/60 climate target (emissions peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060); and experiences in reducing ecological poverty.

During the visit to the city of Chengde, participants learned about a reforestation project and visited SenYangJia Company, a business specialized in pine-based forest products. The experience offered direct exposure to Chinese policies and practices focused on sustainable development and climate action.
