On December 10, 2021, CIPÓ’s Executive Director, Adriana Abdenur, participated in the Shūmian 书面 podcast, a platform about China and Latin America. The podcast addressed topics such as the contribution of Chinese investment to economic and sustainable development in Latin America, and the role of civil society in containing environmental damage associated with Chinese investments in the Amazon and the Brazilian Cerrado.
The main theme of the podcast was based on the article “What Railway Deals Taught Chinese and Brazilians in the Amazon“ by Adriana Abdenur, Maiara Folly (Plataforma CIPÓ) and Maurício Santoro (UERJ), published by Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. The study addresses the potential socio-environmental impacts of the Ferrogrão Railway, which would cross parts of the Amazon and Cerrado.
