Plataforma CIPÓ is honored to welcome Ambassador Carlos Alfredo Lazary Teixeira, former Executive Director of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), as our new Senior Fellow.
With a career marked by diplomacy and international cooperation, Lazary was already collaborating with CIPÓ during his tenure at OTCA. He actively participated and contributed to the organization of strategic events, such as the Global South Policy Dialogue “Tackling the Triple Planetary Crisis through Strengthening Global Governance,” held in Recife in 2023, the international seminar “Sustainable Amazon: Contributions from Social Sciences, Multilateralism, and Civil Society,” held as part of the Amazon Dialogues, and the workshop “International Cooperation for the Amazon: Paths to Implementing the Belém Declaration.”
Throughout his career, Lazary has held prominent positions, including:
- Head of the Political Sector at the Brazilian Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina
- Brazilian Trade Bureau Director at the Consulate General in Miami, USA
- Founder and Director of the Brazilian American Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta, Georgia/USA
- Head of the Trade Promotion Operations Division at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty)
- Deputy Chief of Mission at the Brazilian Embassy in Washington, USA (C&T and Environmental affairs)
- Special Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic (2008-2011)
- Ambassador to Peru and Ecuador
His expertise will be instrumental in strengthening CIPÓ’s work in promoting environmental, climate, and sustainable governance in the Amazon.
