Following Brazil’s handover of the T20 presidency to South Africa at the end of 2024, Plataforma CIPÓ has been invited to co-lead a task force, dedicated to accelerating climate action and promoting just energy transitions. T20 is the G20 engagement group comprised of think tanks and research institutions.
The TF will be jointly led by Maiara Folly (CIPÓ), Gaylor Montmasson (Southern Transitions), and Céline Kauffmann (IDDRI), with thematic co-leaders to be announced soon.
The Task Force will bring together global experts to develop transformative policy recommendations addressing climate and energy challenges in an inclusive and sustainable manner. This work will be carried out in collaboration with the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA), the Institute for Global Dialogue (IGD), the Institute for Pan-African Thought and Conversation (IPATC), among renowned organizations.
Plataforma CIPÓ, which played an active role in the T20 under Brazil’s presidency in 2024, reaffirms its commitment to contributing with analyses and proposals that foster ambitious climate action and the transition toward a fairer and more sustainable energy future.
The Task Force will focus on key areas, including:
- Promoting Sustainable and Equitable Critical Mineral Value Chains
- Scaling Adaptation Finance
- Supporting Inclusive, Just Energy Transitions
- Biodiversity-Climate-Development Nexus
