According to Vieira, one of the key challenges faced by Brazil’s new federal government relates to rebuilding and enhancing Ibama’s ability to effectively carry out environmental monitoring activities, a task that “demands resources, expensive equipment and close collaboration with other environmental and law enforcement agencies.”
