On November 7, 2021, during COP 26 (Glasgow), CIPÓ’s Programme Director Maiara Folly was interviewed by Estadão, a major newspaper in Brazil. The article analyzed the first week of negotiations at COP26, with emphasis on agreements aimed at reducing methane gas emissions, as well as the commitment to end illegal deforestation by 2030.
CIPÓ’s Program Director commented on the tension between the United States and China, the two main emitters of greenhouse gases in the world. Despite some positive announcements, Maiara commented that the commitments announced by world leaders are insufficient to address the current climate crisis. “From the point of view of the main countries that make a significant use of coal, for instance, the announced commitments are still very weak”, she said.
