Brazilian actors combatting and preventing environmental crimes
CIPÓ develops and executes stakeholder analysis methodologies in order to map and analyze the main actors involved in a given area of activity, as well as their capabilities and gaps. Based on the data CIPO collects and analyses, as well as the databases it develops, the organisation is able to systematically identify the dynamics and impacts different actors have upon both multiple and interconnected topics including, environmental crime, international cooperation and climate governance. This in turn allows CIPÓ to produce thoroughly researched and in-depth publications for broader consumption and analysis.
As part of its work on environmental crimes in Brazil, CIPÓ gathers and analyzes a series of data and information on the topic. The infographic and database below are meant as a companion to the strategic report “Beyond ‘Scorched Earth: Paths to Preventing and Addressing Environmental Crimes'”.
In order to assist researchers, activists, and other actors to better understand and analyze the ecology of actors involved in the prevention and responses to environmental crimes in Brazil, this database maps relevant actors, focusing on the following categories:
- government institutions at the federal and state levels (including consultative bodies);
- civil society organizations, including those based in the Legal Amazon, the Cerrado, the Atlantic Forest; the Pantanal;
- country offices of relevant international organizations;
- key universities;
- coalitions, including networks of organizations and cross-sector coalitions involving private sector companies.
Rather than an exhaustive compendium of organizations, this database is meant as a living document which CIPÓ will periodically update. However, users should keep in mind that, due to fast-changing legal, political and institutional dynamics in the environmental area in Brazil, some entries may not always be up to date.
If you would like to suggest a new entry, please fill up this form. Entries will be periodically examined by CIPÓ and selected organizations and institutions will be added to the database.
