Strategic Meeting Discusses COP30 Pathways for Energy Transition and Combatting Deforestation

Following the Global Policy Dialogue held on May 25th and 26th in Salvador, Plataforma CIPÓ organized a strategic meeting this Tuesday (26th) regarding the COP30 Presidency Roadmaps. These are focused on a just transition away from fossil fuels and the commitment to halt and reverse deforestation and forest degradation by 2030.

The meeting brought together representatives from the Brazilian government, civil society organizations, subject-matter experts, international bodies, and climate philanthropy to debate strategies for strengthening the implementation of the global climate agenda. The gathering integrated international coordination efforts led by the COP30 network of special envoys, in the context of building a “global task force” (mutirão global) to expand political support around the Conference’s Roadmaps.

Attendees included Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, President of COP30; members of the Conference Presidency; representatives of national and international organizations; and civil society leaders involved in issues related to climate governance, socio-environmental justice, forests, energy transition, and public policy. Participants also included prominent figures such as Carlos Lopes and Arunabha Ghosh, COP30 Special Envoys for Africa and South Asia, respectively. Plataforma CIPÓ was represented in the coordination and organization of the meeting by its Executive Director, Maiara Folly, and its Deputy Executive Director, Mariana Rondon.

Discussions addressed strategies to broaden international engagement with the COP30 Roadmaps, strengthen coordination between governments and civil society, and connect multilateral commitments to concrete implementation processes at both national and international levels.

The meeting also debated ways to bolster the credibility and ambition of the Brazilian climate agenda, aligning domestic policies with international commitments and reinforcing Brazil’s role in forging responses to the global climate crisis.
