The final T20 Communiqué – a document that compiles the recommendations of the five task forces convened throughout the group’s process and that serves as input for G20 discussions – is now available for download. The proposals cover key themes of the South African presidency, such as global governance reform, development financing, digital inclusion, solidarity for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the acceleration of climate action through just energy transitions.
Plataforma CIPÓ co-led the task force dedicated to accelerating climate action and promoting just transitions within T20 South Africa, in partnership with Southern Transitions and the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI).
CIPÓ is also a co-author of the policy brief “From Principles to Action: Strengthening the G20 Approach to Just and Inclusive Energy Transitions,” signed by Beatriz Mattos (Plataforma CIPÓ); Anna Pérez Català and Marta Torres Gunfaus (IDDRI); and Anthony Dane, Lauren Hermanus and Manav Khanna (Southern Transitions).
The text highlights that the G20 Principles for Just Transitions (adopted in 2024) represent an important political milestone but still lack concrete instruments—such as social protection mechanisms, biodiversity safeguards, accountability tools, and financing means—to ensure effective large-scale implementation.
The T20 policy briefs, including the document co-signed by Plataforma CIPÓ, are available on the T20 website. The final Communiqué can also be accessed and downloaded as a reference for the proposals submitted to the G20.
