Latin American & Caribbean Cooperation in the Era of COVID-19: Glimmers of Hope for Kickstarting Regional Organisations

In partnership with GPPAC (Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflicts) and the Stimson Center, CIPÓ highlights how we can harness and strengthen regional arrangements and organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean in order to tackle the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in the region. Faced with a scenario of political forces uninterested in regional cooperation and a chronic lack of resources for these initiatives, one of the alternatives for building coordinated and effective responses is to explore the potentials of existing transnational networks of civil society organizations, academia, specialists and policymakers. Engaging with these networks could help ensure the continuity of regional initiatives and the development of new concrete and innovative projects, such as the Escazú Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation and Justice in Environmental Matters in Latin America and the Caribbean.
