The Brazilian magazine Carta Capital published an article highlighting the joint declaration on “combating climate change”, signed by the presidents of Brazil and China, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Xi Jinping. João Cumarú, CIPÓ’s researcher based Asian country, was one of the article’s interviewees.
Cumarú highlighted the creation of a climate subcommittee in the China-Brazil High-Level Coordination and Cooperation Committee (Cosban) as an important measure, as the initiative would grant a greater institucionalization to this issue in the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
In Cumaru’s view, the declaration signals some areas that may become priorities for the bilateral partnership, such as the collaboration to eliminate deforestation and the technological cooperation in the area of forest monitoring satellites.
