Maiara Folly, Plataforma CIPÓ’s Executive Director, and researcher Nycolas Candido will represent the organization in New York during the United Nations Summit of the Future (SOTF), which will take place on September 22-23, and the High-Level Week of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
They will participate in key events, such as the SOTF and the New York Climate Week (NYCW), a week of dialogues on environmental issues organized by the Climate Group.
On Friday, September 20, Plataforma CIPÓ and the Instituto Decodifica will hold the roundtable “Promoting Racial Representation in Global Decision-Making: The Role of the UN.” The event aims to discuss the state of racial representation in global governance, with an emphasis on the UN’s role in promoting inclusive, plural, and participatory decision-making processes. The event will take place from 10:45 AM to 12:15 PM (New York time; 11:45 AM to 1:15 PM Brasília time) and will be broadcast live via Zoom.
During the roundtable, CIPÓ and Blue Smoke will launch the policy brief “Uncovering Blind Spots: Racial Equality and Representation in the UN System,” which addresses racial representation and equality within the UN System.
On September 21, CIPÓ will participate in the event “Pact for the Future and Beyond: Towards the 4th International Conference of Financing for Development,” which aims to identify opportunities ahead of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development and the 2025 World Social Forum. Topics to be discussed include reshaping strategies to ensure the fulfillment of commitments and civil society’s role in climate financing and other contributions.
During the same period, CIPÓ co-sponsors the launch of the campaign 1for8Billion, which aims to reform the selection process of the United Nations Secretary-General by promoting greater transparency and inclusion. The launch event “Madame Secretary-General: 1 year to prepare the ground for a fair and inclusive SG selection” will bring together a high-level panel to debate the course forward for a fair and inclusive selection process for the next UN chief and discuss opportunities arising from the Pact for the Future.
