Maiara Folly, the executive director of Plataforma CIPÓ, has been confirmed as one of the panelists for the event titled “Can the City of London cut their ties with climate-wrecking businesses?” scheduled to take place on June 29th in London as part of the London Climate Action Week 2023. The panel discussion will feature industry representatives, NGO experts, and activists.
The participants will engage in conversations encompassing various topics, such as the translation of commitments into concrete actions and strategies to prevent the UK financial sector from financing businesses that contribute to climate harm.
Veronica Oakeshott, Campaign Strategy Lead for Forests at Global Witness, and Kelly Shields, Campaign and Project Manager for Banking Standards at ShareAction, have also been confirmed as speakers. The panel will be moderated by Simon Johnson, the former Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
During the event, Folly will specifically address the imperative to reduce investments in companies that drive Amazon destruction and promote fossil fuel extraction. These are pivotal issues in the fight against climate change and the protection of human rights and the environment.
