In October, the CIPÓ researchers Gabrielle Alves and Renata Ribeiro gave an interview on the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia. With the headline “The bolsonarists borders of soy”, the article count on the participation of the researchers commenting about the political campaign funding by environmental offenders and its consequences, as the attempts to weaken environmental legislation.
The researchers affirm that the interest of funders of bolsonarists candidates is exactly the weakening of environmental legislation. As an example, they cite data from the report “Money, power and laws: campaigns financing by environmental offenders in Legal Amazon and legislative proposals in the National Congress.”, published by CIPÓ in September, that shows that “422 of the elected politicians in Mato Grosso in 2018 elections, including the governor, received money from individuals and shareholders of companies who committed environmental crimes.
