CIPÓ comments COP26 live on GloboNews

On November 1, 2021, Plataforma CIPÓ’s cofounder and programme director, Maiara Folly, commented on COP26, which is taking place in Glasglow (Scotland).

Folly emphasised the need for promoting climate justice and tackling environmental racism, raising attention to the disproportionate impact that climate change has upon historically marginalised groups, such as black people and indigenous groups. CIPÓ’s director also mentioned the need for these groups to be meaningfully represented in environmental and climate decision making spaces.

Finally, Folly called upon Latin American states, and Brazil in particular, to go “beyond words” and present concrete, short term commitments to cutting green gas emissions and tackiling deforestation, especially in the Amazon rainforest. The importance for developed nations to allocate greater funding to climate migitation and adaptation iniciatives in developing nations, while also increasing their emissions’ reduction ambitions, was also emphasised by Folly.
