CIPÓ follows Lula’s speech at the UN and highlights Brazil’s role on the road to COP30

Live from New York, where she is attending Climate Week NYC 2025 and the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Plataforma CIPÓ’s executive director, Maiara Folly, followed President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s speech this Tuesday (09/23).

According to Folly, Lula addressed key issues of international politics, such as wars — both military and trade-related — and stressed the urgency of reforming the global architecture, including the international governance system and trade rules. She also highlighted the president’s emphasis on COP30, which will take place in Belém in November 2025.

“The president has often said that this COP will be the COP of truth. It’s the moment to see whether countries are truly willing to implement what they have already agreed upon,” said the executive director.

CIPÓ’s presence in New York is part of its international engagement efforts leading up to COP30. “We are here following everything and paving the way to Belém so that the conference will, in fact, be the COP of Implementation and the COP of Truth,” Folly concluded.
