The document compiling the main policy recommendations from the Think 20 (T20) task forces to South Africa’s G20 presidency is now available for download. With a strong emphasis on practical, solutions-driven proposals to address global challenges, the Communiqué is the result of months of collaboration among think tanks and experts from around the world — with a particular focus on voices from Africa and the broader Global South.
Plataforma CIPÓ co-leads Task Force 5 (TF5), dedicated to accelerating climate action and advancing just energy transitions. In partnership with IDDRI (France) and Southern Transitions (South Africa), CIPÓ played a key role in ensuring that critical issues such as climate justice, adaptation finance, and the governance of critical minerals were incorporated into the final document.
Key highlights of the Communiqué include:
– The need for a global governance framework for critical minerals that ensures fair benefit-sharing and robust environmental monitoring across the entire value chain;
– Support for comprehensive and inclusive just transition taxonomies that promote gender equality, poverty reduction, and socioeconomic inclusion through whole-of-society approaches;
– Strengthening insurance mechanisms and climate risk resilience to close disaster protection gaps;
– Integration of climate, biodiversity, and bioeconomy nexus solutions into the G20’s agenda on sustainable finance, food systems, and energy transitions.
These recommendations will be submitted to the G20 Leaders’ Summit, scheduled for November 2025 in South Africa.
