Plataforma CIPÓ has just launched a biweekly column on the ICL Notícias portal, with new articles published every Saturday. The column will focus on key debates in the lead-up to COP30, which will take place in November 2025 in Belém, in the Brazilian Amazon. This new partnership aims to broaden the reach of critical and solutions-oriented analysis on climate justice, just transitions, and international cooperation, featuring contributions from various CIPÓ experts in the coming months.
The first article in the series, published on June 13, was written by Maiara Folly, the organization’s Executive Director. Titled “Six Months to COP30: No More Time for Promises—The World Must Act Collectively,” the piece argues that the success of the upcoming climate summit will depend less on the adoption of new, ambitious pledges and more on the urgent and concrete implementation of existing commitments.
According to Folly, “this is not about lowering climate ambition, but about recognizing that the core pillars of the negotiations have already been defined — and that we must now focus on implementing them swiftly, at scale, and with justice.” The article recalls that countries have already agreed to limit global warming to 1.5°C, halt deforestation by 2030, and transition away from fossil fuels. The challenge, therefore, lies in turning these commitments into reality, especially in a global context shaped by geopolitical tensions and historical inequalities.
The column will serve as a space for analysis and positioning on the most pressing issues in the national and international climate agenda, closely tracking the preparations, debates, and outcomes of COP30.
