From October 1 to 4, Program Assistant Igor Loiola represented Plataforma CIPÓ at the Caatinga Climate Week, an event held in Pernambuco and organized by Instituto Sabiá and Instituto Socioambiental (ISA). The initiative brought together representatives from governments, civil society, universities, and local communities to discuss the challenges and opportunities of climate action in Brazil’s semi-arid region.
The discussions emphasized the importance of valuing traditional knowledge and expanding solutions built from within the territories, recognizing the central role of local populations in adapting to climate change, preserving biodiversity, and promoting a just and inclusive transition.
During the event, participants presented innovative experiences in sustainable management of the Caatinga biome, agroecological practices, and strategies for coexistence with the semi-arid environment — topics that highlight the importance of climate justice and collaboration among different sectors in addressing the climate crisis.
