CIPÓ participates as panelist in event on Ecological Transformation towards COP30

The event “New Brazil: Two Years of Ecological Transformation towards COP30”, held at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) in Rio de Janeiro on August 28, reinforced the country’s role as a climate leader on the road to COP30 in Belém.

Organized by the Ministry of Finance in partnership with FGV’s Directorate of Public Management and Educational Policies Development (FGV DGPE), as part of the official program of the Rio Climate Action Week (RCAW), the meeting brought together government, private sector, academia, and civil society.

Plataforma CIPÓ joined as an invited panelist, with Programs Director Mariana Rondon highlighting Brazil’s historic role in the global climate agenda and the importance of the Ecological Transformation Plan for COP30.

“I wanted to take a quick look back so we can look ahead, look towards COP30,” said Rondon. “This speaks to Brazil’s legitimacy in leading COP30. The country has a long history in building and strengthening the global climate agenda, dating back to Rio 92, when the foundations of the international climate framework were created with the three conventions,” she added.

Rondon also recalled Brazil’s contribution under the Kyoto Protocol, with the proposal of the Clean Development Mechanisms (CDMs), which served as the basis for carbon markets. According to her, revisiting these milestones is essential to reinforce Brazil’s credibility and leadership capacity in the face of new climate challenges.

The event also featured the launch of the Public Monitoring Panel of the Ecological Transformation Plan, which enhances transparency and allows society to track about 100 actions already underway. Tatiana Rosito, Secretary for International Affairs of the Ministry of Finance, and COP30 Executive Director Ana Toni stressed the importance of the Plan as a key pillar of Brazil’s contribution to the event in Belém.

The panel also included representatives from the private sector, academia, and civil society, and highlighted women’s leadership in global climate governance, bringing essential perspectives for a sustainable and just future. The event consolidated Brazil’s position as a central actor in integrating economic development, environmental sustainability, and social justice in preparation for COP30.
