In an interview to O Globo on this thursday (Oct. 11th), our senior researcher, Dr. Renata Ribeiro, spoke about the theme of “Venezuelization” in Brazilian politics.
Used before as a threat tool to transform the country into “a Venezuela”, the “Venezuelization” word – already used in other Latin American countries, such as Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru -, now comes as a denunciation of bolsonarist authoritarianism after the Federal Court of Justice reform proposal.
According to the Dr. Renata, “the Bolsonarism’s strategy of looking at Venezuela as a threat and as a catastrophe is nonetheless a try to make people not look to the situation here in Brazil, mainly for the hunger and poverty data”.
