{"id":9014,"date":"2022-04-18T14:27:47","date_gmt":"2022-04-18T17:27:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/plataformacipo.org\/?p=9014"},"modified":"2022-04-18T14:41:31","modified_gmt":"2022-04-18T17:41:31","slug":"the-right-to-a-healthy-environment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/plataformacipo.org\/en\/events\/the-right-to-a-healthy-environment\/","title":{"rendered":"The Right to a Healthy Environment: Expert seminar at the margins of the UN General Assembly"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On 12 April 2022, The\u00a0Right\u00a0to\u00a0a\u00a0Healthy\u00a0Environment\u00a0Coalition an expert seminar on \u2018<strong>UN recognition of the\u00a0right\u00a0to\u00a0a\u00a0clean,\u00a0healthy, and sustainable\u00a0environment: past developments and future prospects<\/strong>\u2019 took place alongside the General Assembly in New York City.\u00a0To\u00a0demonstrate\u00a0to\u00a0Member States the widespread support for the adoption of the resolution, it featured interactive roundtable discussions with interventions by UN Special Rapporteurs, UN entities, academic experts, civil society leaders, business representatives, and environmental human rights defenders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the discussion, Plataforma CIP\u00d3 raised the importance of an effective international mechanism for monitoring implementation of the right, including through meaningful participation by civil society.   It also stressed that, in Latin America and the Caribbean, the Escaz\u00fa Agreement provides a unique opportunity to promote the right to a healthy environment across the region, especially through the enhanced protection of environmental defenders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plataforma CIP\u00d3 is a signatory of the <strong>Call for the Global Recognition of the Right to a Healthy Environment<\/strong>.
