On March 4, 2022, CIP\u00d3 was cited by the Brazilian newspaper o Globo as a result of the nomination of the Monte Alegre State Park, in Par\u00e1, as one of the 2022 World Monuments Watch 2022<\/a>, a selection of 25 sites from across the globe being faced with economic, political or natural threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The nomination for WMW 2022 was made by CIP\u00d3 in collaboration with archaeologists from the Amazon region, including Edithe Pereira (Lead Researcher at the Museu Paraense Em\u00edlio Goeldi) and Claide de Paula Moraes (Professor in the Anthropology and Archeology program at the Federal University of Western Par\u00e1 – UFOPA). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

O Globo’s article highlights the importance of Monte Alegre’s prehistorical rock arts — one of the largest and oldest in the Americas –, for Brazilian archaeology, as well as sheds light to the threats endangering PEMA, such as environmental degradation and the decline in visits to the Park in recent years due to the lack of invests for tourism in the region, as well as the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
