On January 27, 2021, CIP\u00d3\u2019s Programme Director, Maiara Folly, will participate in the event How to make China adapt to local needs<\/a>, promoted by Carnegie Endowment for International Peace at 1 pm (Brasilia time).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many in the West, especially Washington, argue that China extends its global influence by exporting and imposing its developmental model on other countries. But this analysis ignores the ways in which China\u2019s engagement accommodates local actors and institutions\u2014adapting and assimilating local and traditional forms, norms, and practices\u2014and ultimately reflects their demands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A multiyear Carnegie project<\/a> explores adaptive strategies by Chinese actors in response to the demands of local partners across seven regions of the world. These strategies are mostly ignored by Western policymakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
