CIP\u00d3 monitors and analyzes the international commitments assumed by Brazil and compliance with treaties such as the Escaz\u00fa Agreement, a South-South cooperation arrangement that promotes environmental democracy in Latin America and the Caribbean. In an article for Le Monde Diplomatique Brasil<\/a><\/em>, we highlight the urgency of the agreement’s ratification by the National Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 14, 2021, together with the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC), Centro de Collaboraci\u00f3n Civica (CCC), Equipo Pueblo and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Platform CIP\u00d3 promoted the informal dialogue \u201cEscazu Agreement: an opportunity to promote world peace through human rights\u201d<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event’s sponsor organizations launched a report summarizing the discussion, which identified the following priorities for action on the environment and peace in Latin America and the Caribbean:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf National governments need to ratify and adequately and timely implement the Escaz\u00fa Agreement and maximize linkages to the Agenda 2030;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf The participation of local communities is crucial in achieving Agenda 2030 and the implementation of the Escaz\u00fa Agreement;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Open and effective processes of access to justice create incentives for implementation of global and regional policy commitments;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Access to information across sectors and institutions is critical to achieve inclusivity;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Human rights defenders and local peacebuilders safely exercise their functions within a national constitutional framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
