civil society organisations, a letter condemning the approval of the Bill n\u00ba. 490\/2007, as well as expressing concerns over the violence against indigenous peoples during recent protests, which was addressed to the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, and the President of the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Commission (CCJC) of the Chamber of Deputies, Bia Kicis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The letter outlines the series of setbacks that the bill represents, such as the thesis of <a href=\"https:\/\/cimi.org.br\/2021\/05\/pl-490-ataca-direitos-territoriais-indigenas-inconstitucional-analisa-assessoria-juridica-cimi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marco Temporal<\/a> &#8212; according to which indigenous peoples would only have the right to have their territories officially demarcated as indigenous in situations where claimed lands were in their possession on October 5, 1988 (when Brazil&#8217;s Constitution was approved) &#8212; which, in practice,  makes the demarcation of indigenous lands in Brazil unfeasible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div
