Why does the North-South gap persist around this theme? On June 5, the Executive Director of Plataforma CIP\u00d3, Adriana Erthal Abdenur, spoke at a debate organized by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.observachina.com\/\">ObservaChina<\/a> on <strong>the role of China in the United Nations<\/strong> including within the Human Rights pillar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Context: UN Human Rights Council resolution 41\/19 recognizes that development contributes to the process of promoting and protecting human rights. Development is the basis for improving the living standards and well-being of the population of each State and, therefore, contributes to the realization of all human rights. The development and realization of human rights and fundamental freedoms are interdependent and mutually reinforcing. International cooperation for sustainable development plays a key role in shaping our common future, particularly in helping developing countries to promote sustainable development and eliminate obstacles to development. It is therefore essential to continue efforts to promote international cooperation for development. This should include cooperating towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, with an emphasis on eradicating poverty everywhere in a way that leaves no one behind.
