IT IS FRIGHTENING WHAT WE ARE LIVING THROUGH, AND THERE IS NO IMPROVEMENT FORECAST.&#8221;<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"tw-target-text\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Adopted in Escaz\u00fa, in Costa Rica, on March 4, 2018, the Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation and Access to Justice in Environmental Issues in Latin America and the Caribbean aims to ensure its full implementation and effectiveness in Latin America and the Caribbean rights of access to environmental information, public participation in environmental decision-making processes and access to justice in environmental matters, and the creation and strengthening of capacities and cooperation.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"tw-target-text\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">The agreement seeks to contribute to the protection of the right of each person, present and future generations, to live in a healthy environment and for sustainable development. It is the only binding agreement emanating from the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio + 20), the first regional environmental agreement in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the first in the world to contain specific provisions on human rights defenders on environmental issues. The Regional Agreement is open to the 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. The subscription period took place between September 27, 2018 and September 26, 2020 at United Nations Headquarters in New York. After meeting the requirements set out in Article 22, the Escaz\u00fa Agreement entered into force on April 22, 2021.<\/span> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center
