{"id":4629,"date":"2021-03-15T10:01:57","date_gmt":"2021-03-15T13:01:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/plataformacipo.org\/?p=4629"},"modified":"2021-03-26T13:36:50","modified_gmt":"2021-03-26T16:36:50","slug":"open-letter-no-to-the-disruption-of-the-legislative-process-and-the-democratic-debate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/plataformacipo.org\/en\/public-notes\/open-letter-no-to-the-disruption-of-the-legislative-process-and-the-democratic-debate\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Letter: &#8220;No to the disruption of the legislative process and the democratic debate&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On March 2021, Plataforma CIP\u00d3 signed the open letter &#8220;No to the disruption of the legislative process and the democratic debate,&#8221; along with <strong>more than 250 organizations.<\/strong>  Instituto do Homem e Meio Ambiente da Amaz\u00f4nia, Observat\u00f3rio do Clima, Greenpeace Brasil, Instituto Socioambiental, Engajamundo are among others to sign the document, which will also be delivered to the presidents of the Brazil&#8217;s lower house and the Senate, Arthur Lira (PP\/AL) and Rodrigo Pacheco (DEM\/MG).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In the letter, the organizations take a stand <strong>against the &#8220;destruction package&#8221; on the agenda at the National Congress<\/strong>, composed of legislative proposals related to the following themes: allowing mining operations in indigenous lands (Bill 191\/2020, authored by the Executive Branch, in the Chamber of Deputies); environmental licensing (Bill 3.729\/2004 and appended to the Chamber of Deputies, and Bill 168\/2018 in the Federal Senate); and land tenure legalization (Bill 2.633\/2020 in the Chamber of Deputies, and Bill 510\/2021 in the Federal Senate). <br><br>The letter also highlights that, due to the pandemic, with the adoption of exceptional measures by Congress and the new <strong>Remote Deliberation System (SDR)<\/strong>, the spaces of participation of civil society have been compromised, and that a context of regular and face-to-face interaction for the broad construction of dialogue with legislative commissions is needed. <strong>The organizations also request that the Legislative Branch concentrate its efforts on responding to the Covid-19 pandemic instead of dedicating itself to bills and other proposals that put the integrity of the environment at risk.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"http:\/\/plataformacipo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/carta_Nao_Ao_Atropelo_do_Processo_Legislativo.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Click here to read the letter (in Portuguese)<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On March 2021, Plataforma CIP\u00d3 signed the open letter &#8220;No to the disruption of the legislative process and the democratic debate,&#8221; along with more than 250 organizations.
