href=\"https:\/\/www.passblue.com\/2021\/04\/07\/a-latin-american-pact-on-the-environment-is-picking-up-speed-but-brazil-and-others-need-to-ratify-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Passblue<\/em><\/a>, CIP\u00d3 researcher Gabrielle Alves writes about how the <a href=\"https:\/\/repositorio.cepal.org\/bitstream\/handle\/11362\/43611\/S1800493_pt.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters<\/a>, better known as <strong>Escaz\u00fa Agreement, <\/strong> can give new impetus to the fight for socio-environmental justice and climate action in Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not yet ratified by Brazil, the agreement is legally binding and comes with mechanisms aimed at strengthening environmental democracy through the <strong>expansion of capacities and public participation in environmental decision-making processes, in addition to prescribing incentives and facilitating access to environmental information by groups in a situation of vulnerability.<\/strong> Such mechanisms can be decisive in ensuring a safe environment for environmental advocates in the region, in addition to promoting more participatory and transparent environmental governance practices at a time of significant environmental setbacks in Brazil. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a
