Plataforma CIPÓ has been officially invited to join the Technical Advisory Council of the Amazon Cities Forum (FCA), an initiative supported by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) that brings together local governments from the eight member countries of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) to collaborate on sustainable urban development in the region.

CIPÓ’s membership on the Council was formalized during a plenary meeting held on October 28–29 in Paramaribo, Suriname. The meeting brought together local and national governments, regional bodies, and experts to drive a shared Amazonian agenda for urban resilience. CIPÓ was represented by Ambassador Carlos Lazary, its Head of Institutional Relations.

Under the theme “Connecting Assets and Accelerating Action: More Resilient Amazonian Cities,” the plenary started from the premise that many of the resources needed to build more resilient cities already exist on the ground. These include local knowledge, community networks, public management experience, institutional capacity, natural resources, and economic initiatives. The challenge is to connect these capabilities, strengthen cooperation among governments, and mobilize resources to expand the reach of solutions.

Over the course of two days, discussions focused on multilevel governance, climate risk management, and the role of the forest as a strategic asset for Amazonian cities, with the aim of advancing toward a shared agenda of cooperation and action for 2027.

Joining the Technical Advisory Council expands CIPÓ’s role in pan-Amazonian cooperation. The institute is also a technical partner of the Amazon Parliament (Parlamaz), with cooperation formalized through a memorandum of understanding.

About the Amazon Cities Forum
