The Executive Director of Plataforma CIP\u00d3, Maiara Folly, is participating this Monday (March 23), in Beijing, in the \u201cChina-Brazil Exchange Workshop: Promoting Scientific Research on Climate & Nature,\u201d held at the Landmark Convention Center.
The meeting brings together civil society organizations, think tanks, and experts from both countries to discuss pathways for cooperation on topics such as the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), green value chains, sustainable finance, and a just transition. The workshop is organized by BellaTerra Consulting and Greenovation Hub. <\/p>\n\n
Participating institutions include the Amazon Environmental Research Institute (IPAM), the Institute for the Conservation and Development of the Amazon (ICV), the Amazon Institute of People and the Environment (Imazon), the Institute for Climate and Society (iCS), WRI China, WWF China, the Climate Bonds Initiative, and the Institute for Finance & Sustainability (IFS).<\/p>\n\n
Folly took part in Panel 1: \u201cImplementing NDCs in the Context of China-Brazil Cooperation,\u201d which focused on the role of bilateral cooperation in advancing the climate targets of Brazil and China. In her remarks, she highlighted that the two countries have very different emissions profiles\u2014China being more dependent on coal, while Brazil\u2019s emissions are largely concentrated in land-use change and deforestation\u2014which requires distinct strategies but also opens space for complementary agendas. <\/p>\n\n
Addressing the role of think tanks, she pointed to three key areas for bilateral cooperation: green trade, technological cooperation, and alignment of bilateral channels, with a focus on implementing NDCs and COP decisions. \u201cBrazil and China still need to demonstrate how to build alternative pathways, where trade becomes a driver of sustainability rather than a tool of green protectionism,\u201d she stated. <\/p>\n\n
Folly also emphasized the strategic potential of the relationship between the two countries in the ecological transition agenda: \u201cChina is a superpower in green technologies. Brazil, in turn, hosts critical minerals for the transition. It is essential to generate more knowledge on concrete opportunities for technological cooperation and co-development, with a focus on value creation and green industrial development.\u201d <\/p>\n\n
CIP\u00d3\u2019s participation is part of an international mission to China, taking place from March 19 to 27, with activities aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation on climate, energy transition, land use, sustainable trade, and green development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
