The scope has expanded to include:<br>Indigenous peoples and local communities<br>Afro-descendant populations<br>Care-economy workers<br>Social and environmental safeguards<br>Biodiversity protection<br>Sustainable value chains<br>Social participation as a cross-cutting principle<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This broader approach guided the negotiations that culminated in Bel\u00e9m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How We Got Here<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2025:<\/strong> Strong expectations to finally unlock principles and define mechanisms under the Climate Convention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>COP27 (Sharm el-Sheikh, 2022):<\/strong> Creation of the UAE Just Transition Work Programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2023\u20132024:<\/strong> Deadlocks over scope, principles, and the format of the mechanism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2024:<\/strong> Dialogues begin incorporating more robust rights-based language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Momentum from Bonn (SB62)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The June 2025 session took place during the 62nd meeting of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB62), the annual technical gathering that prepares COP decisions.
