Plataforma CIP\u00d3 is taking part in the 2025 Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week, held from May 19 to 23 in Panama City. From the event, CIP\u00d3\u2019s Executive Director, Maiara Folly, is following discussions on the implementation of commitments made under the Paris Agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the highlights of the agenda is the Implementation Forum, taking place on May 21 and 22, with the participation of governments, civil society, the private sector, and development banks. The forum is led by Brazil\u2019s COP30 presidency and seeks practical solutions to accelerate the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), particularly regarding climate finance, technological cooperation, and carbon markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the forum\u2019s opening, Ana Toni, Executive Director of COP30, emphasized the sense of urgency driving diverse sectors to engage with the climate agenda. \u201cAfter a decade of building the rules of the Paris Agreement, the top priority for COP30 must be the concrete implementation of these guidelines,\u201d she stated. Toni also advocated for stronger multilateralism and for valuing solutions already being implemented on the ground\u2014especially those developed by local communities, Indigenous peoples, subnational governments, and the private sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are calling for a global task force\u2014a collective effort to accelerate climate action. Everyone can be part of the solution,\u201d she declared. Toni also stressed the need to reassess current processes and to move forward with greater speed, inclusion, and courage. According to her, future generations will ask where we were when critical decisions had to be made. \u201cWe need to act now, together, to secure the 1.5-degree limit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Climate Weeks are initiatives under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that aim to turn multilateral decisions into concrete actions on the ground\u2014prioritizing climate justice, inclusion, and urgency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The discussions will continue at the next round of international climate negotiations during the Bonn Conference in Germany, from June 16 to 26. CIP\u00d3 is also expected to follow the negotiations in person. Signatory countries to the Paris Agreement are expected to present their new NDCs by September, in preparation for COP30, which will be held in Bel\u00e9m, Brazil, in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During Panama Climate Week, Brazil\u2019s COP30 presidency announced the launch of the \u201cGlobal \u201cMutir\u00e3o\u201d Against Climate Change,\u201d an initiative coordinated by Ambassador Andr\u00e9 Corr\u00eaa do Lago that aims to expand participation and dialogue in the lead-up to the conference. The goal is to engage a wide range of actors\u2014governments, institutions, experts, and civil society\u2014in shaping a more inclusive, effective, and results-oriented climate agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
