Plataforma CIP\u00d3 and the Alexandre de Gusm\u00e3o Foundation (FUNAG) will launch the book “Brazilian Foreign Policy and Climate: Towards an Environmentally Responsible and Socially Just Brazil” on Monday, July 1st, in a ceremony in Rio de Janeiro. Organized by Maiara Folly, Mar\u00edlia Closs, and Vit\u00f3ria Gonzalez, the book features a preface by the Minister of Indigenous Peoples, S\u00f4nia Guajajara, and an introduction by Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and current Brazilian Ambassador to the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Consisting of 11 chapters written by CIP\u00d3 researchers, the publication highlights ways for Brazilian foreign policy to lead in building a more democratic, environmentally responsible, and socially just Brazil, global governance, and world. The launch will take place at 5 PM (Bras\u00edlia time) at the Hilton Copacabana during the T20 Brazil Midterm Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to the organizers, the launch panel will include Ambassador M\u00e1rcia Loureiro, President of FUNAG; Adriana Abdenur, Special Advisor to the President of the Republic; Mariana de Paula, co-founder and Director of Operations at LabJaca; and Nayra Kaxuyana, International Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“By viewing international cooperation as an indispensable tool for promoting just, sovereign, and equitable ecological transitions, the book highlights opportunities to strengthen the climate agenda in relations between Brazil and strategic countries, blocs, organizations, and regions,” comments Maiara Folly, CIP\u00d3’s Executive Director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The book also examines Brazil’s trajectory in the context of the global climate regime, seeking to draw lessons to guide the effective and inclusive conduct of COP30, the 30th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change, to be held in Bel\u00e9m, the capital of Par\u00e1, in 2025. “From Rio-92, through Rio+20, to Bel\u00e9m, the goal of this work is to contribute to a strategic international construction aimed at promoting climate action and sustainable development,” adds Folly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
S\u00f4nia Guajajara emphasizes the importance of diplomacy that focuses on combating inequalities while promoting climate action and biodiversity preservation. “This requires coherence both domestically and in Brazil’s bilateral, regional, and multilateral relations,” says the Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The book’s chapters cover a wide range of topics, including the transformation of the global order and its implications for Brazilian foreign policy, the formulation of a just and equitable transition, the role of the G20 and Bretton Woods institutions in climate financing, the historical trajectory of Brazilian foreign policy from Rio-92 to COP30, and South-South cooperation on climate and environment, highlighting the IBSA, BRICS, and BASIC blocs and the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The publication also addresses the paths for the sustainable and sovereign integration of Latin America and the Caribbean, among other crucial topics for the climate and environmental agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
