The article analyzed the participation of women leaders in the fight against the impacts caused by dams.<\/p>\n\n<p>CIP\u00d3\u2019s Senior Researcher\u2019s comment concerns how women are especially affected during the construction of mega-projects such as hydroelectric dams.<\/p>\n\n<p><em>\u201c<\/em>Women report body aches due to the pressure and uncertainties related to the construction of dams, which often cause significant impacts upon local communities. There is also an increase in domestic and sexual violence, because, at the time of construction of a dam, there is this arrival of a large number of male workers that impact the local way of life<em>\u201d<\/em>, she said.
