In his first speech as President-elect of Brazil, Lu\u00eds In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva highlighted the importance of promoting sustainable development and international cooperation to protect the Amazon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this context, it becomes ever more urgent to build a strong Global South-led alliance to define key principles and practices for an effective international cooperation for the protection of forests, based on the promotion of a just and sustainable development model. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Against this background, Plataforma CIP\u00d3, Imaflora, Chatham House, Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning (CEBRAP); Center d&#8217;Etudes pour l&#8217;Action Sociale (Democratic Republic of Congo), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB)&#8217;s Center for Transdisciplinary and Sustainability Sciences, Observat\u00f3rio do Clima and Maranta host the event: <strong>&#8220;Brazil-Congo-Indonesia Alliance (BICs) for a Just and sustainable forest governance&#8221;.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event will debate ways to enhance the BICs alliance, as well as to expand it beyond the BICs countries, seeking to stimulate international cooperation between companies, states and coalitions both in the Global North and South. The ultimate goal is to protect forest areas, including by ensuring commodity chains that are free from deforestation, environmental crimes and human rights violations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event, which will debate principles and strategies for cooperation between (and beyond) the BICs countries, will take place <strong>on November 10<\/strong> (Thursday) from 1pm to 2pm (Egypt) \/ 8am-9am (Brasilia) \/ 12pm-1pm ( Kinshasa) \/ 6pm-7pm (Jakarta)<strong> at the Brazil Climate Action Hub, (Blue Zone) during COP 27<\/strong>,  <strong>in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.<\/strong>.
