On July 28 at 7pm<\/strong> (Bras\u00edlia), Plataforma CIP\u00d3 and LabJaca screened the documentary “Immoral Code<\/strong>“, which addressed the dangers posed by lethal autonomous weapons. The session was open to the public and took place at the Parque de Manguinhos Library, located at Avenida Dom Helder C\u00e2mara, 1184, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Immoral Code”<\/a> is a documentary produced by the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots<\/a><\/em> and addresses the impacts of an increasingly automated world where machines make decisions about who to kill or injure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Immoral Code screening was followed by a roundtable<\/strong> led by experts in the fields of artificial intelligence, human rights, and public security. The discussions addressed the violations (current and potential) caused by the use in security operations of devices based on artificial intelligence, facial and voice recognition, including the risks associated with the incorporation of these technologies in lethal autonomous weapons systems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the center of the debate was the disproportionate threats that the adoption of this type of technology by public security agencies poses to historically marginalized groups and residents of places already marked by human rights violations associated with emerging technologies, such as the Jacarezinho favela in Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This topic was the subject of a recent article<\/a> published by Plataforma CIP\u00d3 and LabJaca at Le Monde Diplomatique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
